individual counseling

A typical session is 50 minutes, and is available virtually or in person. I work with adults, and teens 16+.

I specialize in developmental trauma/complex PTSD; adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse; emotional, physical, and sexual abuse; commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking; process addictions such as sexual addiction and eating disorders; family of origin issues; chronic stress; and life transitions. These experiences encompass many more general experiences (depression, anxiety, etc.), so please reach out if you’d like to explore working together, but don’t identify with these listed categories.

somatic experiencing

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a modality that acknowledges the innate wisdom of our bodies, and the importance of holistic healing through regulating the nervous system.

In trauma, the stress cycle gets interrupted, and therefore remains incomplete. Our bodies store that energy and activation related to the traumatic experience, chronic or acute. SE helps us to access that stored activation, and not only move toward completion, but help restore a sense of equilibrium and safety. Utilizing SE will increase your knowledge of yourself, help you learn the language of your body, promote regulation, and increase safe connection with yourself, others, and the world.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) also utilizes the natural healing capacity of the body, by using bilateral stimulation to assist in processing trauma.

Bilateral stimulation (through eye movements, tapping, light, or sound), allows both hemispheres of your brain to be engaged and online simultaneously, much like what happens during REM sleep. This allows your brain to process information at a different pace, and helps resolve and reprocess past experiences. EMDR is often incorporated into a typical 50 minute session, but is also available for longer sessions such as 90 minutes, or an intensive format.
